15 years at CNRS

After my PhD in robotics, I was hired as a researcher at the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Resaerch) in 1984 as a research assistant. During this first part of my career, I developed research works in the field of modeling and control of robotic systems for manipulation and locomotion features, in different CNRS research lab (Laboratoire de Mécanique et Robotique, Laboratoire de Robotique de Paris) as well as in foreign laboratories (Stanford-Mechanical Eng), MIT-Field and Space Robotics Lab, Rutgers University-Haptic Lab) as visiting scientist.

Then I became a university professor,

I was appointed professor at the UPMC University — now Sorbonne University — in 1998 where I was in charge of setting up and then directing the "Advanced Systems and Robotics" master program co-accredited by UMPC/ENSAM/ENS. At the same time, I extended my research work to humanoid systems at the Laboratoire de Robotique de Paris and then within the framework of the Institut pluridisciplinaire des Systèmes Intelligents et de Robotique (UMR CNRS-INSERM-Sorbonne) which I created in 2005 and directed until 2013.

Training through research, dissemination and valorization of research results and development of collaborations have always been an important part of my activities.

I have indeed directed about thirty theses, contributed to publications and patents (see list https://scholar.google.fr/citations?user=1bhuMr0AAAAJ&hl=en) and carried out research transfer in industry as a consultant before participating in the creation of a Technology Ressource Center.

I also took part, quite early in my career, in leading scientific community in robotics, at the national level, in the framework of CNRS ROBEA, BIOSTIC, ANR-PSIROB, etc. and at the international level (as coordinator of the joint robotics program CARRA between CNRS and the Russian Academy of Sciences, as French representative in the CLAWAR network of excellence on mobile robotics, or in the International Advanced Robotics Programme. I have also been involved in the organization of a number of international Robotics conferences (CLAWAR, IFTooM-Romansy, ARK, ISER, IRSS, etc.). From 2010 to 2014, I directed the national robotics research network (GdR Robotique) and after the creation of the national plans of the "new industrial France", I was the Robotics referent at the Directorate General forEnterprise (DGE) and in charge of the organization of the general states of robotics.

Today at ONERA ...

Today I am in charge of research work in the Information Processing and Systems domain at ONERA. In addition, I am in charge of organizing the development of ONERA's activities in New Aquitaine (the region of Bordeaux). In this last capacity, I am involved in several regional networks for the animation of research and innovation and I am president of the regional committee for the coordination of research institutions. In addition, I continue to participate in various national scientific committees (the GdR-Robotics, ANR-ASTRID) and international committees such as the "Robotics and Mechatronics" of IFTOMM and to take part in the organization of international robotics conferences such as ISER and ISSR.
