The winner of the 2010 prize has been recognized for all of his work on quantum opto-electronic components.
Emmanuel Rosencher, Onera General Scientific Director and professor at the École Polytechnique, received the France Telecom 2010 Grand Prix from the Academy of Sciences on 25th January 2011. He has been recognized for all of his work on quantum opto-electronic components, leading to new infrared detector and wavelength tunable laser (optical parametric oscillators) systems.
The core of Emmanuel Rosencher’s scientific activity is in the study of the electrical and optical properties of semiconducting heterostructures and their applications. Although he has done most of his work in industrial laboratories, at the Cnet in Grenoble and the Thomson central research laboratory, Emmanuel Rosencher has always concentrated on upstream research, without ever losing sight of potential applications. This is the case, for example, of multi-quantum-well infrared detectors that represented an advance in both fundamental and applied terms. They now constitute the basis of a new activity at Thales, creating night vision systems with extremely impressive performance.
