The construction of the E-ELT, a revolutionary 40m class telescope was launched by the European Southern Observatory in December 2014. ONERA is at the core of the achievement of the first adaptive optics instruments for the telescope and its advanced instrumentation.
The delivery by ONERA of the French part of SYSIPHE- onboard spectral imaging system - to the DGA marks the start of a new phase with the launch of an evaluation in operational conditions. The results of this will ultimately help to define the reconnaissance systems of the future.
Thirty-eight wind tunnel operators and experts, representing twenty-eight worldwide organizations (as far away as Australia), attended the three day STAI-122 Meeting, hosted by ONERA, October 5th through 7th, at the Centre Paul Langevin in Aussois.
A very unusual test was conducted at the ONERA Modane Centre from the 7th to the 11th of July: a scientific experiment on the scale of the large wind tunnel, under conditions that have never been met before. Purpose: To better understand the dynamics of turbulence and create a reference database for coming years.
Onera has developed a model and implemented simulations to assess noise annoyance due to the passing of existing or virtual aircraft. Comparisons with flight measurements are excellent. Sound synthesis enables the result to be heard.
ONERA and Leosphere are associated in the development of a new scanning Lidar with a range of over 10 km. The system was deployed during a field campaign lasting one month at the Toulouse airport, in order to qualify the contribution of the lidar to the knowledge of air-mass dynamics.
