Store Release Simulation

Two methodologies could be used at ONERA Wind Tunnel Division

  • CTS (Captive Trajectory System)
  • Free separation

CTS technique

2 CTS are available for our 2 major industrial wind tunnels (S1MA and S2MA). These 2 CTS could be used in a grid mode or in the simulated trajectory mode. In this last case, there is a close loop between the trajectory and the load on the store, measured by the internal balance.

CTS for S1MA

The first test was in 1995. It could be used from Mach 0,05 to Mach 1. It could be equipped with a sting balance (maximal diameter 40mm) and the maximum vertical load is 20,000N.

CTS for S2MA

The first test was in 1977. It could be used from Mach 0,1 to Mach 3,1. It could be equipped with a sting balance (maximal diameter 20mm) and the maximum vertical load is 900N.

Free separation

Free separation test

The F1 low speed pressurized wind tunnel is equipped for free separation tests.

The object can be launched by a high pressure actuator inside the model and is then trapped by nets and special mats.
Its path is determined by high speed camera measurements and specific software
